Stepping into 2011 fabulously, here’s the very first feature of The Dose with jewelry designer, Fabiola Bernard.
Introduction
I am Fabiola Bernard, I reside in The Boogie Down Bronx, NY LOL. I am originally from La Pearl des Antilles. I was born and raised in Haiti; I lived there for 17 years and then came to the United States to get a better education and get exposed to a broader environment.
I am a lover of art and music. I am a crafter, artist and Interior/Event Designer. I have a strong passion for art, music, fashion, design, photography, life and nature.
Last but not least, I am the nicest person on earth!!
What are you creatively addicted to? When did you start?
I am at the moment a crafter and jewelry/accessories designer. My main focus is to work as an Event/Interior Designer, which is one of my passions. I love to design and decorate interiors.
I am creatively addicted to my craft, creating new products every day is a must LOL. I create all the time because once I think of something I have to create it right away so the idea doesn’t go away. If I am not around my materials I’ll sketch my idea so I don’t forget it. My brain is always shooting new ideas and I can’t stop creating LOL!
I decided to go further with my creativity by making jewelry and accessories just for fun and I thought of turning it into a business. So I started with www.Younikness.com in November 2010. I offer items that you won’t see anywhere else. If you like to be different this is the place for you. I am sure that you’ll find something. I am actually working on the spring and summer collection. Please stay tuned!!
Why do you create?
I get inspired pretty much by everything around me. My mother inspires me, she pretty much taught me a lot. I also inspire myself, as well sometimes.
I love to create, I create because it feels good and it keeps me going. I feel good when I create something and I look back and say WOW!! I did this?! Creating to me is fun, it keeps me at peace. I create when I am sad, happy and I create in my dreams LOL.
Also growing up in Haiti we didn’t have electricity all the time to watch TV or surf the Internet, so I was always doing something, either cooking with my mother, drawing, sewing , painting or crocheting. I was always making something.
