MOCADA IT YOURSELF – A DIY FESTIVAL

Let me start by saying that the people who I’ve met through this blog are THE BEST! Thanks to Nina for sharing this event information with me.

MoCada (Museum of Contemporary African Diasporan Arts) will be hosting a DIY Festival on Saturday, January 21, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. On display will be handcrafted items by local artists from the Brooklyn, NY area. Not only will there be items for sale, the artists will also hold workshops to demonstrate how they actually created their handcrafted items. There’s an opportunity  to support handmade artistry and learn something too!

This festival is a part of a series of exhibitions to be hosted by MoCada entitled, “Pixelating: Black in New Dimensions.” The series explores the identity of African-Americans in the 21st century through the arts.

For more information on this event check out MoCada’s website.

THE DOSE – THE GRAPHIC DESIGNER EDITION (Packaging, Branding & Print Design)

Introduction

Well hello there! My name is Jon Davila and I’m a Self-Employed Graphic Designer from Brooklyn, New York.

What are you creatively addicted to? When did you start?

My specialties as a Graphic Designer consist of Packaging, Branding and Print Design. I am (and forever will be) creatively addicted to typography to the point of typoholism! My addiction started at a very young age when I was first introduced to learning blocks…sad story, I won’t bore you with all of the details.

Why do you create?

My passion for design drives me to create. There’s nothing more rewarding than taking a simple thought that’s floating in your head and giving it life. Whether I’m designing for a client or creating a personal piece, the answer is ultimately the same, designing promotes happiness. It provides me with a natural high that can’t be explained.

Where can people find your work?

Name one thing you would like people to know about you.

I’m a lover of life. I cherish every day as if it’s going to be my last. Perseverance is the key and to achieve true happiness, you have to let go of all of your baggage :) .

BROOKLYN RENEGADE CRAFT FAIR OUTING

Yesterday I went to the Renegade Craft Fair at McCarren Park in Brooklyn, NY. My mother, who is a sewer and doer also tagged along. I was hoping for nice weather since the fair was outside. We got everything but that  – it was rainy and cool.

After we walked around about three times checking out what all the vendors had to offer, I ended up buying, wait for it…another journal LOL. I also picked up a decorative tin to accompany my journal – both from Julie Dye Craft. Mom didn’t find anything that she really fell in love with.

There were many families, doggies and onlookers, despite the weather. I took a few random pics. Overall we had a great time. We even got to watch some pretty zexy men working out in the park, which was a nice treat (naughty, I know).

The Renegade will also be today, same place from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Here’s how I had to park my car in order to get a good spot right outside the park entrance. Yup I was on the curb. No worries, nothing was damaged and the decision was mother approved :D .

UPCOMING CRAFT FAIR…RENEGADE STYLE

I apologize for the lateness of this post, but the days get away from me sometimes. The 7th annual Renegade Craft Fair is happening this upcoming weekend at McCarren Park in Brooklyn. The fair will be on both Saturday and Sunday – June 11 and 12 from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. I hope the weather stays Springlike here in NY for this event!

Check out Renegade’s website for more information on appearing vendors, rules of the venue and directions.
